Ph.D. Biology – Clark Atlanta University

Patricia grew up in Rochester, New York and went on to complete her B.S. degree at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her doctoral research at Morehouse College was on a comparative analysis of membrane proteins in normal and sickle red blood cells. After graduate school, she furthered her research on the structure of red blood cell membrane proteins at the Department of Pathology at Yale University School of Medicine. She later moved to the Department of Hematology to pursue her research interests in the genetics behind hereditary blood disorders.

A strong foundation in research and undergraduate teaching gave Patricia the impetus to complete the Alternative Route to Certification in Connecticut. She taught several courses such as Honors Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Genetics and Forensic Science for the Medical Careers Magnet Program at Harding High School in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She moved to Georgia in 2004 to teach at Fernbank Science Center. She enjoys teaching and seeing students excited about science.

Motto: “Science for the fun of it.”
