Field Marks
  • Dark orange forehead and throat
  • Pale orange under parts
  • Dark, iridescent upper parts
  • Long, deeply forked tail
  • Juvenile similar to adult but paler underneath with a shorter tail
  • Most often seen flying

Habitat

Barn swallows often build their nests in man made structures. Some common places include barns, under eaves, and in boat houses. They prefer open habitats of all types.

Status

Barn swallows are common summer residents in the Atlanta area.
