  • olive-brown upper parts contrasting with rufous tail
  • White eye ring
  • Dark spots on breast
  • Under parts white with brownish to grayish flanks
  • Pink legs
  • Thin bill with pale base to lower mandible

Habitat

The Hermit thrush is a relatively common nesting bird in northern forests and at high elevations.  However, it is often heard more than it is seen.

Status

Hermit thrushes are common during spring and fall migration in the Atlanta area.  Nearly all spot breasted thrushes seen in the winter in the U.S. are Hermit thrushes.
