Description

• black with light yellow or whitish crossbands
• belly is a combination of lack and yellow.

Habitat

Habitat is primarily terrestrial, but shows a distinct liking for streambanks and swamp edges, possibly becasue water snakes and turtle eggs (two primary food sources) are abundant there.This kingsnake also feeds on snakes (including venomous species). Experiments with kingsnakes have demonstrated that they are immune to the venom of rattlesnakes, cottonmouths, and copperheads.

Range

Chiefly found in the eastern seabord's pine belt form Maryland to Florida, but also crosses over into the Piedmont and mountain valleys.
