Description:

This kit contains ten student boxes and one teacher box. The student boxes each contain seven minerals, four igneous rocks, five sedimentary rocks and five metamorphic rocks. The same samples are included in the teacher box. The teacher box also contains a magnet for identifying lodestone, satin spar calcite for observing double refraction, and Moh's Hardness Scale Collection for determining the hardness of the minerals. Dilute hydrochloric acid is enclosed for identifying calcite, limestone and marble. The acid should be used under close supervision. In order to avoid confusion, the minerals, igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks and metamorphic rocks should be used in different sessions. Reference materials and suggested activities are included in the kit.
