Great Crested Flycatcher

• Gray throat and breast
• Yellow underparts
• Brownish-olive upperparts
• Pale wing bars and tertial edges
• Brown tail with rust edges

Habitat

Forages high in the dense canopy of eastern forests.  Usually nests in a cavity of dead trees or limbs, often in an old woodpecker hole.  Has an odd habit of lining its nest with a shed snake skin.  Often heard and not seen.

Status

A common summer resident.  Also commonly seen or heard during spring and fall migration.
